Percussion Lessons

There is an ever growing interest in world percussion and we often arrange workshops where the accent is on performing.
These are often staged in schools and colleges etc, but from time to time we also hire a large venue to accommodate much larger attendances and present a wide diversity of musical styles. Whereas we sometimes provide the instruments and more detailed tuition, we generally prefer participants to bring their own percussion instrument (an egg shaker will do!) and to get as many people playing as quickly as possible, no matter what their level of ability.
Check this web site for details of future events.

We also offer individual tuition on a wide range of Latin and World percussion instruments teaching both the authentic rhythms and techniques and also approaches towards playing in non-traditional settings e.g. Rock, Jazz etc.
Instruments currently taught at the studio include - Congas, Bongos, Timbales, Bata, Djembe, Bodhran, Framedrums, Dumbek, Ashiko, Shekere, Udu, Pote together with a whole host of other hand and stick percussion.

We can structure lessons for a particular instrument or for those instruments pertaining to a particular regions e.g. Cuba, Africa, Brazil, India, The Middle East, Asia, Europe etc or can introduce you to a wide variety of different instruments from different cultures.
The techniques used for playing percussion are almost as varied as the number of instruments themselves but study of any one hand drum will generally put you in good stead for playing a variety of different instruments.

The teaching method again follows a pattern of developing relaxed arm and body movements to facilitate ease of playing.
